NUDE PORTRAITS: EMBODY ~YOUR~ ART

Hi Friendly Soul,

Epigenetics tells us that unprocessed trauma gets stored in the cells, and gets passed down generationally.

My mother’s mother, my mother, and I, all share a mole on the inside arch of our right foot. My mothers mother was a true lefty, my mother is ambidextrous (writes/eats with her left hand but is otherwise right hand dominant), and up until recently, if you asked me I would tell you that I am right hand dominant but write with my left hand.

I have always felt incredibly weak handed on the left, and my mother often lamented at the lack of strength and coordination in her own left handedness. I also broke my left arm 4 times before the age of 10 which furthered that feeling.

This past year has been a process of deep healing and learning to be more and more in my body — to feel safe there in acceptance and at peace — and last week when removing my contacts, I suddenly felt like attempting that with my left hand. This is something I’ve never even tried to do because precise motor skills have always been impossible for my patience, but this time felt different, and after maybe 5 minutes of working at it — and succeeding — I suddenly burst into tears as a flood of emotions flowed through me — most of them being a sort of revelation and realization that I am not ‘disfunctional’ nor ‘disabled’, and that there is nothing wrong with me.

My mother’s mother went to Catholic school and from a young age had her left hand tied behind her back because it was believed to be the mark of the ‘devil’. To see the effects of how generational trauma can be passed down, recognized, and healed, made me feel more connected to my lineage, and myself, and more hopeful that change is possible — that we are never our ‘shortcomings’ because those that believed that to be true were dealt their own generational trauma.

I am so sad that she was made to believe that who she was was ‘bad’ or ‘wrong’. We can only be who we are, and through May We Rise THEMOVEMENT — an experiental art project celebrating the nude form, in community — I hope to inspire transformation through self-reflection and illuminate that capital ‘t’ Truth for all who choose to participate and journey through this container.

I wanted to create a way for people to engage with the creative process even if they don’t consider themselves creative, because creativity is life.

Creativity transcends the material world and connects us with the heart world. In its essence, this art project is a way for you to be involved with ~your~ art even if you don’t necessarily identify as an ‘artist’.

To view the work, become the work, and to then view yourself ~as~ the work is a way to tune in to your creation — the creation of *you*.

This project is for you if you are:

An Artist by trade

An Artist for fun

An Artist in secret

An Artist in your favorite daydreams

An Artist to your friends

An Artist in the shower

An Artist in your kitchen

An Artist in your garden

An Artist in your heart

The 2020 project was the most special thing I have ever lived, and I am *buzzing* for this next chapter. Please join us on Opening Night to kick off what I know will be a very, very special journey celebrating our incredible resilience as humans.
